Pass It On Turns 1

by Cheryl Pennington

After a whirlwind year of a whole range of wonderful development activities in Teaching, Learning and Assessment, the birthday celebration for ‘Pass It On’, our professional development programme, arrived. First on the to do list was to design and order birthday cards which include a QR code to our ‘Poundland Pedagogy’ part of the ‘Pass It On’ teaching and learning site.

As with any major event in the Pass It On programme, the preparations included a flurry of activities, which for the most part, a colleague and myself divided between us.

These included:

  • Purchasing a vast array of #poundlandpedagogy and using QR codes to link through to our Padlet walls to provide staff with suggestions of how they might use their Poundland presents.

Maracas & eggs                           Skittles & star glasses               Straws, money & whistles

  • Designing 3 minute motivators to attach to balloons.

  • Making talking heads videos about what staff would be bringing to the ‘Pass It On’ birthday celebrations.

  • Asking our fabulous Hospitality department to make the ‘Pass It On’ cake; you can’t have a birthday celebration without a cake!

  • One of the team made a great video for the birthday showing the development of ‘Pass It On’ over the last year.

Guests were invited to bring a teaching and learning resource with them that they could leave at the party for a colleague to take away and try out. Our staff were very generous and brought a whole array of presents including ‘Pass It On’ cupcakes with QR code flags for digital resources, books, poems about learning, and other various resources and activities.

So Friday 9th May arrived and so had the Pass It On birthday celebration. Our very talented CPD Coordinator, together with the team, decorated our lovely collaborative learning zone with balloons and bunting so that guests felt they were entering a teaching and learning party. Guests donated their presents and had the opportunity of picking a teaching resource from our lucky dip box. Then it was time to cut our delicious ‘Pass It On’ birthday cake of which most staff treated themselves to at least one slice.

Vanessa Gancedo and Safar Tabari won Chromebooks for being selected in the raffle as 2 staff who have contributed to and participated in ‘Pass It On’. Congratulations to both.

And the winners with their presents!

Thank you to all staff who participated and contributed to ‘Pass It On’s’ success in 2013-14. I have already been asked about next year’s teaching and learning birthday celebration.
